Project Overview

JIBE is a 3-year Erasmus+ Forward-Looking Project that addresses the shortage of advanced professional skills needed for energy-efficient and smart buildings. The construction sector plays a key role in Europe’s green transition, while AI, IoT and building automation are rapidly changing the skills required by employers.

The project brings together vocational training providers, research and development institutions, qualification authorities and employers from six countries. It will develop and test a joint EQF Level 5 qualification for Building Intelligence Experts, combining technical skills, work-based learning, digital learning and cross-border mobility.

Objectives

• Map employers’ and learners’ needs and define the professional profile of the Building Intelligence Expert.
• Develop a joint curriculum with aligned microcredentials that respond to the real needs of the labour market.
• Create learning materials, collaborative projects with companies, equipment-sharing protocols and a Digital Twin of a smart home.
• Establish automatic mutual recognition, career guidance and Europass digital credentials.
• Test the qualification, microcredentials and mobility activities with VET students and teachers.
• Support formal validation, dissemination and long-term sustainability across the partner countries.

Implementation

JIBE is organised into seven Work Packages (the individual work areas into which a project is divided based on different activities and objectives), covering project management, qualification and curriculum design, skills recognition, piloting, quality assurance, dissemination and sustainability.

WP2 focuses on skills mapping and qualification design through research activities and focus groups with companies and sector stakeholders, in order to identify the skills required by the labour market and define the profile of the Building Intelligence Specialist (EQF Level 5).

The project also includes a joint curriculum with microcredentials, the testing of a Smart Twin and mobility programmes. The pilot phase will involve at least 60 VET students and 12 teachers/trainers, as well as a Summer School.

Expected Results

• Joint qualification for a Specialist Technician (EQF Level 5), with specific competences in Building Intelligence.
• Microcredential-based training curriculum, designed to support the recognition and certification of acquired skills.
• Testing of the Smart Twin model, including the development of a digital twin of a smart home, six collaborative projects and a shared map of available equipment.
• Testing of mobility programmes within the consortium, supported by a guide for the automatic mutual recognition of skills and a career guidance model to facilitate mobility
• Strengthening of the international network and cooperation, through high-quality pilot partnerships, an implementation roadmap and agreements aimed at ensuring long-term cooperation.
